Get Your Mower Ready For Spring!

For a shorter wait, bring your mower to Teske's early in the season for a spring tune-up.  If you are doing your own maintenance include these steps at the start of the mowing season.  Refer to the Operator's Manual for details.

  • Change oil if it hasn't been changed.
  • Clean engine externally.  Make sure there is no debris and no blocked air passage ways.
  • Service and replace Air Filter if needed.
  • Starting is easier if spark plug is in good condition.  If in doubt, replace it.  Make sure the spark plug wire is securely attached to the spark plug.

 

  • Repair or replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Tighten screws, bolts, nuts and fasteners as needed.
  • Touch up all rusted or chipped paint surfaces.
  • Lubricate machine as per Operator's Manual.
  • Clean machine thoroughly.

 

  • Drain and remove old fuel prior to adding fresh fuel.
  • Purchase only the amount of fuel that will be used within 30 days.
  • Add fuel stabilizer to the fuel the day you buy it.
  • Purchase name brand fuel.
  • Purchase "Regular" grade gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87.

 

  • Walk Powered Mowers:
  • Examine the blades.  If they are damaged or cracked, replace them immediately.  If the blade edge is dull or nicked, have it sharpened and balanced.  Or, replace it.
  • Make sure the cutting deck is cleared of old clippings.
  • Inspect pull cords to ensure they are not frayed.
  • Check that attachments are connected and working properly.
  • Check drive belt if machine has drive system.
  • Check the safety system and review safety features.

 

  • Riding Mowers:
  • Thoroughly charge battery before reinstalling (see owner's manual for more details).
  • Check electrical system for loose or dirty connections.
  • Make sure tires are properly inflated.
  • Examine the blades.  If they are damaged or cracked, replace them immediately.  If the blade edge is dull or nicked, have it sharpened and balanced, or replace it.
  • Inspect the belt(s) for fraying, cracking or signs of stretching.  Replace the belt(s) if any of these conditions occur.  It is recommended to have an extra belt on hand in case the belt breaks while operating.
  • Inspect attachments and make sure they are mounted properly.
  • Service the drive system per the Operator's Manual.
  • Check the safety system and review safety features.

 

  • Hand-Held Leaf Blowers & Edgers/Trimmers:
  • Make sure all components are in operating condition.
  • Check that straps, handles, nuts, bolts and fasteners are secure.  Replace missing fasteners immediately.
  • Check spool line and replace if necessary.
  • Use only 2-cycle mix gas in Echo.  Some models can use 4 cycle.
  • Inspect guards.

 

  • Machine Won't Start?  Check these trouble shooting tips before you call for help.
  • Ensure you have fresh fuel (less than 30 days old).
  • Make sure the spark plug wire is attached to the spark plug.
  • Ensure the spark plug wire is clean and in good condition.
  • Make sure the battery is fully charged if applicable.
  • Refer to the Operator's Manual for proper starting procedures.
